To raise funds and encourage lifelong commitment from our varied constituents to support the Hanover and District Hospital in providing quality care to all.
To ensure greater access to quality rural healthcare by engaging our community in special events, social campaigns and legacy opportunities
Community, Compassion, Collaboration; achieving more by working together.
The Hanover and District Hospital Foundation was developed in an effort to harness the generosity of the community and their existing passion for accessible healthcare in our region, evident from the very first donation in 1923.
An early settler to the area, the towns first mayor, and a furniture manufacturing mogul, Mr. Daniel Knechtel was inspired to make a donation in honour of the passing of his wife. He was invested in continuing the development and growth of this community and understood that a hospital was needed to encourage more people to settle in the area. Together with his son, Mr. Jacob Knechtel, a donation was made that would set the future of our organization in motion.
The two men gave their family estate, all surrounding grounds, and upwards of $7,500 (the equivalent of more than $100,000 today) to be used to develop "The Hanover Memorial Hospital" and to purchase equipment for the facilities. The hospital remained at this location for 50 years until the new location was built in 1973.
Today, our hospital Foundation continues to inspire lifelong support for healthcare within our community.
Incorporated in 1989 as a registered charity, the Hanover and District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) inspires our community to invest in in our first class hospital. All funds raised through our organization directly benefit patient programs, equipment purchases, staff education, and renovations, with the main goal of enhancing patient care at the Hanover and District Hospital.
The Foundation consists of a dedicated and qualified group of local volunteer board members who are committed to improving healthcare in Hanover and the surrounding areas as well as an entire community of supporters. We rely on the generosity of volunteers and donors alike to fulfill our mission and are humbled and grateful of what can be achieved when we work together for the good.
In addition to the HDHF Gala and Auction, Brew Side Bingo, and CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon, the Foundation generates funding through a variety of initiatives including appeal campaigns, planned giving, tribute gifts, and grant proposals. The Foundation is always looking to add new initiatives and programming and welcomes your unique ideas.
